Vermont Recording Studios was founded in 2022 by John Sawyer and is located in the beautiful town of Chester, Vermont. We feature the finest state of the art analog and digital recording and mixing equipment. It's not about the equipment however, it's about you, the artist.
Whether you're recording and mixing, or mastering your project, we strive to make your studio experience the most comfortable and enjoyable as possible. When you are comfortable and having fun it translates directly into the recordings. The project typically moves along faster too; that's one of the reasons why you won't find separate rooms or isolation booths here. At Vermont Recording Studios we are all in it together. We communicate without barriers.
Whether you're a solo artist, full band, or anywhere in between, we can accommodate your needs and deliver professional results.
Located in the scenic Green Mountains, Chester is a thriving town with a strong sense of historic New England charm. Easily accessible from I-91. Here at Vermont Recording Studios, you can enjoy a tranquil and charming atmosphere to relax and record your project without the distractions of the city.
John Sawyer has been in the recording industry since 1993. While still attending Full Sail University he served as engineer and tech for Tabitha's Secret, the core of this band later became Matchbox 20. John received a Multi-Platinum sales award for his work with the band.
After graduation John accepted a prestigious internship with the legendary studio design firm, Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG). During his time with WSDG John was able to combine his previous experiences with architecture and building with his passion for recording studios. It was during this time when he was first introduced to the legendary Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin...)
After completing the internship with WSDG John accepted a staff engineering position with Giant Recording Studios in New York City. At Giant John had the pleasure of working with many legendary artists, including Sting, David Bowie, Dr. John, Queen Latifah, Q-Tip, Will Lee, Paul Shafer, Lou "Blue Lou" Marini, Alan "Mr Fabulous" Rubin and more... In addition to working on multiple jingles for major ad campaigns with American Express, IBM, Boston Market and more...
Next, John moved to Miami. In Miami he co-owned Mad Hatter Studios as well as worked in many of the area's other major studios, like Criteria Studios, Studio Center, Audio Vision, etc... In addition to recording and mixing John also became one of the areas 'go to guys' for Pro Tools sales, service and support. He also built several studios in Florida as well as in the Caribbean. Artists John worked with while in Miami include Barry Gibb (The Bee Gees), Barbara Streisand, Scott Stapp (Creed), Ronnie James Dio, Yngwie Malmsteen, Matchbox 20, Lauryn Hill, Inner Circle, Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Danny Spitz (Anthrax) and lots of local Florida bands.
After starting a family John accepted an offer to be the Director for The Pro Tools Training Center and moved to Nashville. Looking to get more hands on with the gear again John moved to Chester, VT where he worked providing high-end sales, service and support to many musicians and studios world-wide. Later, John also worked as Tech Support and QA Manager for a local software company.
in the winter of 2020 John began working on building his own studio. Personally designing and building the room and acoustic treatments. All of the equipment choices were made to have the best of what's available now. John is proud to be able to feature gear from some of the most respected manufacturers in the industry, including Solid State Logic (SSL), Dangerous Music, Focusrite, Neumann, AKG, and more...
But, besides all of his experience John is easy to get along with and fun to be around in the studio. He loves music and working with musicians to help their dreams come true!
